Steve McLain’s musical journey began at just five years old when he first stepped on stage singing “Reynard the Fox” with the Irish folk band The Old Triangle. That experience sparked a lifelong love of music, particularly Irish folk, which remains one of his deepest influences. Throughout his school years, Steve sang in choir and earned multiple Division I ratings for solo vocal performances, developing the strong, expressive voice that defines his sound today.
He began playing guitar toward the end of high school, which quickly led to live performances starting in 1998. In 2000, Steve released his first solo album, Townie, marking the beginning of his career as a songwriter and recording artist. The following year he formed the original band Jefferson County Green Band, which went on to record four albums of Steve’s original music. The group shared stages with major national acts including Blues Traveler, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and David Allan Coe.
Alongside his band work, Steve maintained an active solo career and performed as a duo with his wife, appearing with artists such as Diamond Rio, BlackHawk, Sammy Kershaw, and the Bellamy Brothers. His musical path eventually crossed with Commotion’s Jimmy Ryan, leading to the recording of an album featuring Steve and his wife’s duo project.
With Commotion, Steve brings powerful lead vocals, guitar, and decades of stage experience, combining roots influences, rock energy, and authentic storytelling that connect instantly with audiences.
